Talks 1: High Availability and You
--------------------------------
In todays world of business, a downtime planned or unplanned is unacceptable. Unfortunately, failures in computer systems, from power outages to hard drive crashes to kernel panics, are myriad and inevitable. Even worse, these catastrophes often require human intervention to resolve, costing site owners hours of downtime and potentially millions of dollars in lost revenue and in extreme cases, a closure of business.
Open High Availability Cluster, the open-source version of Solaris Cluster, Sun's enterprise high availability product suite, is software that tightly connects multiple physical nodes to provide a high availability platform for off-the-shelf software applications. This presentation will introduce the concept of high-availability clusters, and will show how Open High Availability Cluster (OHAC) can make your application highly available and reduce unscheduled downtime. The concept of zones and virtual clusters will also be presented. If time permits, there will be a demo of a live cluster running Apache web server.
This presentation will also talk about
- Internals of building a high availability cluster like cluster membership, quorum, fencing, global filesystem etc
- The tight integration with OpenSolaris and how the single system OS is extended to multiple systems.
- Zone Clusters and virtualization
- The process of opensourcing OHAC and road map.
- how to participate in the Open High Availability Cluster (OHAC) community on OpenSolaris.org.
- how fully open source systems can address large enterprise needs.
- Student particiaption in OHAC project
Talk 2: Introduction to Sun SPOTs
